Beachwood Students Commemorate 9/11
Beachwood Students Commemorate 9/11Activities are planned at several Beachwood schools on Friday, Sept. 9, to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Students at Beachwood High School will observe a school-wide moment of silence at 8:45 am, when all construction activities at the school will also pause.

Beachwood Middle School will hold an all-school "Spirit of America" assembly during their afternoon advisory period. The assembly will include the singing of the national anthem by the BMS choir, a video about 9/11, and speaker from Soles4Souls who will kick off the school's shoe drive, which is part of BMS' "The Spirit of Giving" initiative for the 2011-2012 school year. Students are also discussing the events and impact of 9/11 during their social studies classes.

Hilltop Elementary School students will participate in a brief outdoor ceremony Friday morning led by principal Michael Molnar. Classroom social studies discussions this week have focused on the positive contributions of community helpers - firefighters, police, teachers, medical workers - during 9/11 and its aftermath.
