Bison Staff Spotlight: Craig Alexander

January 20, 2023

This week’s Bison Staff Spotlight features BHS teacher Craig Alexander, who has been a dedicated and caring presence in Beachwood Schools for 27 years. Mr. Alexander teaches graphic design and AP computer science principles. He also serves as the BHS student activities coordinator and student council advisor.

With his range of professional experiences and interests, Mr. Alexander is easily relatable to students and an asset to the school community. He majored in communications at the University of Akron and worked for American Greetings prior to pursuing a second career in the field of education.

Mr. Alexander earned a master’s degree in special education and technology while working as an aide at Hilltop and the middle school. He transitioned to full-time teaching in 2001 and is grateful for the mentorship he received from colleagues along the way.

“Beachwood is a place where if you want to work with kids and you want to make a difference, it’s a great place to teach,” he said.

As an educator, he enjoys being part of the multicultural learning community at BHS. Students hail from more than 40 countries, offering an international perspective to the teaching and learning process that benefits all.

“It’s truly a unique culture,” he said. “If you walk into the cafeteria, you don’t see islands of kids from one culture or one group. Students have friends from many cultures. Many of our students speak multiple languages. They’re very eager to learn about the world around them.”
