Meet Our New Director of Pupil Services

Beachwood welcomes Jennifer Polak as the Director of Pupil Services

July 20, 2022

Beachwood City Schools warmly welcomes Jennifer Polak as the new Director of Pupil Services.

An experienced leader and champion for students, Ms. Polak comes to Beachwood from the Ashtabula Area City Schools, where she served as the Director of Pupil Services and Special Education. In this role, Ms. Polak led the district in implementing a multi-tiered system of supports and developed a comprehensive Internal Monitoring System for practitioners who work with students with special needs.

“I am honored and excited for the opportunity to serve the Beachwood community,” said Ms. Polak.

Prior to her work in Ashtabula, Ms. Polak served as the Director of Pupil-Personnel for the Fairport Harbor Exempted Village School District. During that time, she installed the first International Baccalaureate program in Lake County. The International Baccalaureate program makes rigorous content accessible to all students through varied approaches to learning.

Ms. Polak began her career as a teacher in the Fairport Harbor Exempted Village Schools, where she incorporated inquiry, project-based learning, and authentic assessment to meet the needs of all students. As a teacher, Ms. Polak collaborated with the superintendent to develop a district-wide technology plan and led professional development seminars for teachers on technology integration and media.

Her desire to make a difference inspired Ms. Polak’s decision to pursue a career in education.

“Personally, I struggled in my early education,” she said. “It was the teachers who really believed in me, saw my potential and shifted the narrative that changed my mindset and pushed me to accomplish all that I have today.”

Ms. Polak is currently pursuing a doctorate in educational leadership from Ashland University. She holds a Master of Educational Administration and Leadership from Ashland University and a Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education from Notre Dame College of Ohio.

When she joins the Beachwood administrative team in August, Ms. Polak will succeed Lauren Broderick, who will retire after the 2022-2023 school year. Ms. Broderick will serve as the Interim AdministratorPupil Services prior to her retirement.

“I am proud and honored to be selected," said Ms. Polak. "I am looking forward to learning and growing with this wonderful team of educators."
