Herd Against Hunger

What is the Herd Against Hunger?

Join the Beachwood City Schools community on our Homecoming Weekend and volunteers from dozens of additional eastside school districts in the effort to feed the hungry in Northeast Ohio. On October 14, 2018, the Herd Against Hunger will set a Guinness Book World Record by making the world’s longest continuous chain of sandwiches -- 40,000 long!

The Herd is the idea of Beachwood High School junior Lena Leland.  Ms. Leland knows that 21% of Northeast Ohio children live in food insecure households and that we have the ability to do something about this. The Herd’s sandwiches will be packaged and donated to shelters, soup kitchens, and subsidized housing organizations throughout Cuyahoga County and other nearby counties.

While the Herd aims to make a dent in hunger in Northeast Ohio, we know that food insecurity will remain a persistent problem.  For that reason, we aim to establish the Herd as an important annual event our community schedules on their calendars.
