Information for 2025-2026 School Year

Information for 2025-2026

Dear Beachwood Schools Families,

I am writing to share the good news that on July 7th, the negotiations teams for the Beachwood Federation of Teachers and for the district came to agreement on the last set of open terms for a contract that will cover the next three years. In order to go into effect, the contract must now be ratified by a vote of the BFT’s members and approved by the Beachwood Board of Education. I am hopeful these two steps will take place successfully by July 28th.

The negotiated contract is the result of months of research, collaboration, and detailed bargaining. It contains some significant changes that I believe are beneficial to our school’s programs and services for students and, although the contract has not yet been ratified and approved, it is important that we share information about some of these changes with you now so you can plan ahead.

School Calendar
In order to best ensure a successful arrival for students, the new contract establishes four days for staff to work in the district, rather than the current two, before the school year begins with students. These days are dedicated to staff professional development, planning, and preparation.

The first day of school for students will be as follows:

Monday, August 18

  • Fairmount - Phase-in Schedule (Details linked here)
  • Bryden - Kindergarten Drop In Day (details to follow) and All 1st and 2nd Grade Students
  • Hilltop - All students
  • Beachwood Middle School 6th Grade Orientation (no 7th or 8th graders)
  • Beachwood High School 9th Grade Orientation and New to the District Student Orientation (current 10th, 11th and 12th graders do not attend)

Tuesday, August 19

  • Fairmount - Phase-in Schedule (Details linked here)
  • Bryden - All students
  • Hilltop - All students
  • Beachwood Middle School - All students
  • Beachwood High School -All students

Wednesday, August 20

  • Fairmount - All Students

The last day of school for students is unchanged: June 3, 2026

School Schedules
Our negotiated contract creates a consistent start and end time for students and eliminates any late start or early release days during which we had previously scheduled staff meetings and professional development. Instead, two school days have been repurposed across the entire school year to provide time for these important activities before or after the student school day.

The start and end times for students at each building will be the same every day, Monday through Friday all school year.

Thank you for supporting and being flexible about these adjustments to our previously communicated calendars and schedules for the 2025-2026 school year. A public hearing about the amended 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 school calendars and the 2027-2028 proposed school calendar will take place at a Special Meeting of the Board of Education on Friday, July 18, 2025 at 8:30 am. I believe these changes will prove to be positive for our students and families as well as our staff. Each of your building principals will follow up this email at the end of July with another communication that contains detailed information about a variety of topics related to the opening of the school year.

Best wishes,

Dr. Robert P. Hardis
Superintendent

P.S. - Please plan to join us for our BACK TO SCHOOL CELEBRATION from 3 - 5 pm on Sunday, August 10 at the Beachwood High School Main Stadium! More information will be shared in the coming weeks.
