Beachwood Schools and City of Beachwood Hosting Fourth Annual Juneteenth Celebration

Juneteenth

BEACHWOOD, OH – Beachwood City Schools, in partnership with the City of Beachwood and with collaboration from the Beachwood Schools African American Affinity Group, will host the fourth annual Juneteenth celebration on Friday, June 19, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Beachwood High School stadium.

The event is free and open to the public and will include activities, games, a DJ, local vendors, food trucks, and a screening of “Piece by Piece” on a giant movie truck.

The Juneteenth event honors the historical significance of Juneteenth, the day in 1865 when 250,000 enslaved people in Texas were declared free. Juneteenth, which commemorates the end of slavery, is observed with traditions that include family gatherings, community celebrations, music, dance, storytelling, parades, picnics, and readings of the Emancipation Proclamation.

Now in its fourth year, the Juneteenth celebration has quickly grown into one of the most well-attended events in the city. Parking is available at Beachwood High School and Beachwood Middle School, with overflow parking at Beachwood City Hall.
