Policy on Bullying Prevention

The Board of Education is committed to providing a safe, positive, productive, and nurturing educational environment for all of its students and guides the district by its formally adoption of the Bullying and Other Forms of Aggressive Behavior policy.

This policy was developed in consultation with parents, staff, volunteers, students, and community members as prescribed in R.C. 3313.666 and the State Board of Education's Model Policy. The district is required to report data to the state.

Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports

Beachwood Schools is committed to preventing bullying through our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program, which aims to create a nurturing school environment where every student feels safe, respected, and valued. By implementing PBIS, we proactively set clear behavioral expectations and teach critical social-emotional skills, fostering a community of empathy and mutual respect. By involving students, staff, and the wider community in our efforts, Beachwood Schools ensures a unified and supportive approach to maintaining a positive school climate, significantly reducing the occurrence of bullying and promoting a culture of kindness and respect for all.

Filing Complaints

Students and/or their parents or guardians may file reports regarding suspected harassment, intimidation, or bullying. Such reports shall be reasonably specific including person(s) involved, number of times and places of the alleged conduct, the target of suspected harassment, intimidation, and/or bullying, and the names of any potential student or staff witnesses. Such reports may be filed with any school staff member or administrator, and they shall be promptly forwarded to the building principal for review, investigation, and action.

Reported incidents are investigated by the building’s principal following completion of a bullying incident form. The principal or guidance counselor may 1) interview the “targets,” bystanders and alleged perpetrators; 2) contact parents of those involved; and 3) follow-up with disciplinary action or remediation, as appropriate. All acts of bullying are documented in our electronic student records system and are reported to the Pupil Services office, which reports all incidents to the Ohio Department of Education at the conclusion of each school year.
