Arthur Gugick Memorial Scholarship
This award was established in 2020 in the memory of Arthur Gugick, who throughout his life was truly an extraordinary individual. Arthur saw and experienced life through varying perspectives and creative modalities. He was a person of great integrity, passion, creativity and insight. He was not afraid to challenge himself and others. He was not afraid to chart his own course and set his own direction. He was a person who could uniquely engage
others in meaningful ways.
In memory of Arthur’s many contributions to the academic and artistic communities for which he had such passion and made so many meaningful relationships, this award will be presented to a Beachwood High School graduating senior who, through the creative process and completion of an original “work of art” will have:
- Demonstrated passion, creativity, insight, originality and introspection in whatever form the final product takes.
- Demonstrated in no uncertain terms a product and a creative process reflective of who they are as a person. The work of the selected senior should also be reflective of the type of person Arthur was. The selected candidate will have demonstrated that they made a major contribution to the community through their efforts and their work and left that community better than how they found it.
- Impressed the selection committee of the experiential nature of the work and what they gained from the creative process. The selection committee will have not only evaluated the product but also the process that resulted in the product.
- Demonstrated to the selection committee a level of passion, commitment and investiture not demonstrated by the other applicants.
The “work of art” can include, but is not limited to, works of drawing, painting, sculpture, fashion design, dance, music, creative fiction, creative non-fiction or digital media.
Depending on the nature of the final product and the logistical realities associated with the final product, the Scholarship Selection Panel can:
- View the final product in person
- View the final product in the form of a digital image
- View the final product, if it is a “performance piece” either in person or via a sound-cloud link
The actual selection process will consist of:
- Submitting the actual “work of art”
- An essay accompanying the work of art describing a)the inspiration, b) the process and c) how this represents you as a person/artist

Dakota Cody Weiner Memorial Scholarship
This award, established by family and friends in 2001 in his honor, is given annually to a Beachwood High School graduating senior with an extremely kind heart, who, because of his or her spirit, succeeds against all odds and uses their experience to help others.
The Dakota “Cody” Weiner Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 2001 by Cody’s friends and family, to honor a little boy who had the soul of a wise old man, and also to honor the community that stood by him – our community, Beachwood, and its wonderful school system. Cody had dreams of attending Beachwood High School and beyond, but he was never given the opportunity. While in remission from brain cancer, he succumbed to head injuries sustained in a tragic accident. In his short eleven years, he had to endure much more than most. Cody faced the hardships of his illness with an indomitable spirit. There was nothing he could not achieve. Cody’s most enduring quality was his gentle kindness toward others, not only to help those who struggled, but also to befriend them. He did this willingly and without applause – just because someone needed him. Cody loved Beachwood and Beachwood Schools. He always touted this to anyone who would listen. He once said he was going to be the Mayor of Beachwood. We believe he might very well have been.
Criteria for selection may include (but not be limited to): leadership qualities, helping others, determination to achieve, willingness to donate time for charitable deeds above and beyond the required community service hours, displays exceptional compassion toward others.

Ron Madow Athletic Achievement Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a Beachwood High School graduating senior wrestler who has been a member of the varsity team for at least two years and has attained a high level of achievement while on the team. This memorial scholarship was established in 2006 by his family and friends.

He developed a great rapport with every standout Beachwood wrestler since his graduation.
While Ron’s presence will always be palpable in the Beachwood wrestling room, this scholarship in his name is being created to honor future wrestlers by allowing their names to be associated with Ron Madow’s. This will pay tribute to High School seniors demonstrating qualities similar to those that made Ron so special and critical to the advancement of the good name of Beachwood High School athletics throughout the state of Ohio. Due to the unique impact created by Ron, along with his innovative and energetic spirit, this scholarship mirrors that uniqueness.
The applicant must have wrestled on the BHS varsity wrestling team at least two years and have attained a high level of athletic achievement while on the team.
Criteria will include (but not be limited to):
- Strong work ethic

- A source of pride to the Beachwood Community
- Enhances the reputation of Beachwood athletics
