Three Students Named U.S. Presidential Scholar Candidates

BEACHWOOD, OH – Beachwood High School seniors Dotan Dana, Lyndia Zheng, and Tony Zheng have been selected as candidates for the United States Presidential Scholars Program according to a recent announcement. The trio represent three of the 188 high school seniors in the State of Ohio to earn the honor. There are approximately 5,000 candidates throughout the country.

A nomination to this prestigious program is among the highest honors a graduating senior can receive. Scholars are selected on the basis of superior academic and artistic achievements, leadership qualities, strong character, and involvement in school and community activities.

Later this month, the Commission on Presidential Scholars will review the applications of all candidates and narrow the list to semifinalists. That list will then be used to select up to 161 U.S. Presidential Scholars.

The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program was established in 1964, by executive order of the President, to recognize and honor some of our nation's most distinguished graduating high school seniors. In 1979, the program was extended to recognize students who demonstrate exceptional talent in the visual, creative, and performing arts. In 2015, the program was again extended to recognize students who demonstrate ability and accomplishment in career and technical education fields.
