Lisa Henkel Named Head Girls Tennis Coach for Beachwood Bison
BEACHWOOD, Ohio - Beachwood High School is excited to announce the hiring of Lisa Henkel as the new Head Coach of the Girls Tennis program. Henkel brings with her more than 20 years of coaching experience, a strong background in competitive tennis, and a proven commitment to student-athlete growth and team success.
Henkel most recently served as the Junior Varsity Girls Coach and Varsity B Boys Coach at Orange High School, where she also co-coached the Varsity A teams that advanced to state championships for both boys and girls. Her previous coaching roles include serving as Assistant Varsity Coach at Hawken Upper School and as Head Coach of the boys and girls middle school teams at Hawken from 2017-2021.
Her coaching foundation began in the 1990s with the USTA in Flushing, NY, where she volunteered to help bring tennis to underserved communities. She later coached at the YMCA Youth Tennis program in Greenwich, CT, and provided private lessons as a professional coach in the area.
Henkel’s competitive career is equally distinguished. A former standout at Huron High School in Ann Arbor, MI, she was the State Singles Champion and Team Champion in 1989 and a Singles Finalist and Team Champion in 1988. She went on to play #1 singles as a freshman and served as co-captain at Mount Holyoke College. Since 1995, she has maintained a USTA 4.5 ranking and has competed in a wide range of adult leagues in New York, Connecticut, and Ohio.
“Lisa Henkel brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and enthusiasm to our program,” said Ryan Peters, Director of Athletics at Beachwood High School. “Her dedication to coaching and her long-standing connection to the game of tennis make her an outstanding fit for leading our girls team into a new era. She has been part of the coaching staff at two of the top tennis programs in the State and knows what it takes to elevate our girls tennis program to the next level. Coach Henkel is a welcomed addition to the Beachwood Community.”
