COMPLETE RESULTS

BEACHWOOD, OH – The Beachwood High School Science Olympiad team delivered a historic performance at the Northeast Regional competition on Saturday at Brecksville-Broadview Heights HS, capturing first place with 74 points, one point better than the runner-up. The victory marks the first regional championship in school history as BHS outperformed a National Champion team. The Beachwood Middle School team also had a strong showing at regionals, placing fourth overall with 135 points.

Both teams have qualified for the Science Olympiad state tournament which will be held on April 18 at The Ohio State University.

“This was a truly special moment for our teams,” said Rakhee Banerjee, the team’s advisor. “They worked incredibly hard and to see them achieve something that has never been done before at Beachwood was very inspiring.”

Science Olympiad competitions challenge students across 23 events, including engineering, biology, chemistry, physics, and earth science. Teams compete in numerous events that test scientific knowledge and hands-on problem-solving skills.

The BHS team had 15 top-three finishes in events at regionals, including first place showings Anatomy, Chemistry Lab, Circuit Lab, Disease Detectives, Engineering CAD, Hovercraft, and Remote Sensing. The middle school team posted 11 top-five finishes in events at regionals, placing second in Dynamic Planet and third in Entomology.

“We are proud of the dedication and teamwork shown by our Science Olympiad teams,” Banerjee said. “These performances reflect the passion our students have for learning and discovery, and we are excited to see them compete at the state tournament next month."
