Beachwood Schools Receives Auditor of State Award with Distinction

Beachwood City Schools has received the Auditor of State Award with Distinction for accounting excellence from Auditor of State Keith Faber's office. The prestigious award places the district among the top 4% of 6,000 public schools and government entities recognized for a "clean audit" in fiscal year 2023.

Kathryn Semo, Northeast regional liaison for the Auditor of State, presented the award at the April 29 Board of Education meeting. “The distinction puts you in a very esteemed group,” she said. “We just want to thank you as board members and your treasurer Matt Brown for all the hard work, professionalism, fiscal integrity, and for watching over every dollar here at Beachwood City Schools.”

“To be able to achieve this award, we know it is a team effort,” she added.

To qualify for a "clean audit," Beachwood City Schools adhered to stringent criteria established by the Auditor of State's office. This included maintaining financial reports based on generally accepted accounting principles and producing an Annual Comprehensive Financial Report. The clean audit underscores the district's commitment to high standards of financial accountability, as it revealed no findings of recovery, citations, or deficiencies.

Following the award presentation, Mr. Brown acknowledged the efforts of recently retired treasurer Michele Mills, noting “all the work she’s done to continue the fiscal transparency and accountability here at Beachwood.”
