Beachwood Schools Achieves Five-Star State Rating on Ohio State Report Card

Beachwood Schools Achieves Five-Star State Rating on Ohio State Report Card

Dear Beachwood Community,

Today, the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce (ODEW) released its school report cards based on data from the 2024-2025 school year. We are proud to share that Beachwood Schools again earned five stars, the highest possible rating.

Key Indicators:

  • Beachwood Schools’ performance index (PI) is 106.3, earning the state’s five-star rating for “Achievement,” the highest possible.
  • The District also earned a five-star rating for “Progress,” defined as demonstrating “significant evidence that the district exceeded student growth expectations.”
  • Students identified as gifted across the district scored in the top 1% of all Ohio districts in performance index.
  • Beachwood High School earned a five-star rating on “Graduation Rate,” which was 96.9% for the Class of 2025.
  • The elementary schools improved significantly on the K-3 “Early Literacy” score, earning a 5 out of 5 in this category. Staff and students have been working hard on phonics-based structured literacy instruction – referred to as the “science of reading.”
  • New College, Career, Workforce, and Military Readiness Measure - Based on data collected from the 2024 graduating class, 70% of Beachwood’s seniors met the threshold “readiness” measure, earning us a 3 out of 5 on the report card. This measure is based on students’ ACT or AP scores, College Credit Plus program course credits, acceptance into the military, or earning a work credential such as in carpentry, cosmetology, and the culinary arts. We will continue our efforts to help every Senior meet the requirements set by the state for this readiness measure.

New Acceleration Reporting:
Take a look at the “Achievement” section of the report card to see the new way the state reports students’ performance. For the first time, Ohio’s 2025 school report card shows the number of students who take state tests above their actual grade level. You can find Beachwood’s impressive acceleration statistics on the right-hand side. Click on the “Proficiency by Enrolled Grade” report.

Beachwood Schools offers students the opportunity to accelerate in their math and science classes beginning in Grade 4. By doing so, our students are then able to pursue a wide array of college-level coursework while still in high school. A quarter to more than half of our students take these accelerated math and science courses at various grade levels.

Congratulations to our talented students, their dedicated families, and the district’s inspiring staff for their contributions to this impressive state report card. This information comes on the heels of our announcement that a record 11 Beachwood High School Seniors earned National Merit Semifinalist status from the College Board. The annual state report card and National Merit honors are two of the multiple measures of the rigorous depth and breadth of a Beachwood education and we are proud of our students’ results. Thank you for the steadfast support and trust you place in our school district to strive for excellence and continuous improvement.

Best wishes,
