Beachwood High School Honors State Champions

BEACHWOOD, OHOn Friday evening, August 22, Beachwood High School celebrated five of its most accomplished student-athletes by unveiling State Championship Hall of Fame pictures in the gymnasium and at the football season opener.

The event honored wrestler Caleb Greenwood who won the OHSAA Division III Wrestling state title at 150 pounds and the track quartet of K’Dyn Harris-Tate, Marley Readance, Meena Abdul-Basser, and Kyrsten Ginn who captured the OHSAA Division II state championship in the 4x200-meter relay.

Surrounded by family, coaches, staff, and community members, the champions’ achievements were forever etched onto the walls of the gym - a place where every Beachwood student-athlete dreams of leaving their mark.

Following the unveiling of the photos, the five honorees joined the Beachwood football captains at midfield for the coin toss prior to the season opener. Greenwood did the honors of flipping the coin. Their recognition continued at halftime where the five state champions were formally introduced and celebrated before the home crowd.

At the state championship in March, Greenwood rallied from a 7-0 deficit with three takedowns and a penalty point in the final period to claim an 11-10 victory, becoming Beachwood’s 19th individual state champion. He finished his junior campaign with a 46-2 record. The track relay team delivered an equally dominant performance at the state championship in June, racing to a state title with a time of 1:39.40, nearly two seconds ahead of the field.
