Athletics Department Shares Winter Sports Highlights
This winter was one for the record books! Our Bison swimmers earned the highest team finish in school history at the Ohio High School Athletic Association State Championships, and several athletes are set to compete in the upcoming Ohio Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches Indoor Track & Field State Championships. Junior wrestler Caleb Greenwood heads to the Ohio High School Athletic Association State Wrestling Championships as the No. 1-ranked competitor in his division, while our seventh-grade boys basketball team clinched the Chagrin Valley Conference title.

OHSAA State Swimming Championships
The Bison swimming team finished as the most successful swim team in Beachwood history, placing in seven events at the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) State Championships and finishing fourth as a team. We also broke nine school records this season, which is truly incredible.
State Championship Results:
- 200 Medley Relay – Colin Elwell, Derek Fan, Kevin Zhang, Ben Keyerleber – State Runner-Up
- 200 Free – Colin Elwell – 12th Place
- 100 Fly – Kevin Zhang – 3rd Place
- 100 Fly – Derek Fan – 4th Place
- 500 Free – Ben Keyerleber – 23rd Place
- 200 Free Relay – Colin Elwell, Kevin Zhang, Derek Fan, Ben Keyerleber – 4th Place
- 100 Breast – Derek Fan – 21st Place
- 400 Relay – Kevin Zhang, Ben Keyerleber, Colin Elwell, Sam Park – 10th Place
State Wrestling Championships
Junior standout wrestler Caleb Greenwood captured the Division III District 150-lb. championship this past weekend at Independence, pinning and tech-falling his way through the tournament while knocking off the No. 2-ranked wrestler in the state. Caleb enters the OHSAA State Wrestling Championships as the No. 1-ranked wrestler in the state. Wrestling starts on Friday and concludes on Sunday. This is Caleb’s second trip to the state tournament; last year, he finished eighth in the state.
Indoor Track & Field State Championships
This Friday, the Bison track & field team will take to the track, having qualified 20 athletes for the Ohio Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches Indoor Track & Field State Championships. This is truly an amazing accomplishment. We will have nine girls and 11 boys competing at state for the Bison. The State Championships begin this Friday at SPIRE in Geneva. Below is the list of our state qualifiers:

Cheerleading
Our Bison cheerleaders attended the Ashland Cheer and Dance Competition at Ashland University and finished in fourth place in an incredibly competitive field! This marks our first team competition in over 10 years, and we couldn’t be prouder of the hard work, dedication, and energy our athletes and coaches have put into building this program. This is just the beginning. The future is bright!
Girls’ Basketball
Our Bison girls’ basketball team finished the season with a record of 13-10, the best record since the 2014-2015 season. The team was led by seniors Goldi Aschkenasy, Lexi Jaffe, and Londyn Travis, along with freshman standout Zoe Walters. Goldi ended her high school career leading all players in all divisions in the state with 4.2 blocks per game and was voted First-Team All-District. Zoe ended her freshman season with 372 points, averaging 16.9 points per game. She was named Second-Team All-District. Sophomore Marley Readance was voted Honorable Mention All-District.
Boys’ Basketball
Our Bison varsity boys’ basketball team was led by four-year varsity letter winner senior Nick Reese, as well as seniors Jacob Thomas and junior standouts Jaden Koonce, CJ Payton, and Ethan Malek. Jaden was voted First-Team CVC. Twelve of our players earned scholar-athlete awards by maintaining a GPA above 3.5. The future looks very bright for the Bison.
Seventh-Grade Boys’ Basketball Chagrin Valley Conference Champions
On February 22, the seventh-grade middle school boys’ basketball team captured the Chagrin Valley Conference Championship in a thrilling victory over Fairview! This incredible achievement marks the first middle school conference championship since 2019, showcasing the hard work, determination, and teamwork of our young athletes.
