University Hospitals and the Beachwood City School District have established the UH-Beachwood High School Medical Academy, a rigorous four-year, science-based curriculum designed to prepare high school students for professional careers in medicine. Classes began in the Fall of 2014 and enroll new freshmen each fall.
The Medical Academy is a seamless academic program that blends traditional Honors and Advanced Placement course work at Beachwood High School with internships, credit-flex studies, augmented summer course work, and structured experiences at multiple sites within the UH system.
This unique educational partnership represents a first-of-its-kind collaboration between a major health system and a public school system. While Beachwood High School already has a strong reputation for its academic program that is often compared to the area’s finest private schools, Academy graduates who enroll in academically-demanding pre-med college programs will have a distinct advantage over students from other high schools.
