HILLTOP EXTRACURRICULARS, CLUBS & ACTIVITIES

All activities begin the first week of September

Our students have access to a wide range of after-school opportunities including Student Council, Newspaper, Yearbook, Chess Club, Destination Imagination, Intramural Sports, Choir, Fiddle Factory, Homework Club, Diversity Club, Scholars, Art Club, and Greenhouse Club (with a greenhouse on-site). Hilltop Elementary also has on-site after-care programming.  The Beachwood City School District also provides a Late Bus for students who stay after school to participate in our after-school programs.


Art Club
Advisor: Sarah Krieger
Description: There is no better place to explore a student’s creativity than in Art Club! Students will be able to explore various art materials, learn about different famous artists, and create large projects and murals to help beautify our school!
Meets: Every Thursday 2:45-3:45 until the end of the school year
Grades: 4th and 5th
 
Destination Imagination
Destination Imagination is a global organization that sponsors project-based STEAM tournaments.  Teams of 2-7 students form based on grade/competition level. Each team selects one new and engaging Team Challenge requiring a solution that will be presented at the tournament. Team Challenges encourage students to explore their passions, discover their unique talents and abilities, and learn new skills. Team Challenges are available each year in the following categories: Technical, Scientific, Fine Arts, Improvisational, Engineering, Service Learning, and Early Learning. This program is open to Beachwood students in grades K - 12.
Meeting days and times vary and are specific to each individual team.

Diversity Club
Advisor:  Jason Hill     
A group of students who promote understanding and acceptance of all individuals regardless of race, gender, cultural background or other perceived differences.  This student-lead group identifies cultural challenges; makes decisions; designs solutions and implements plans.
Meets: Dates left for 22-23 are: Mar. 6, Mar. 13 Apr. 3, Apr. 24, May. 8
Grades: 3,4,5
 
Greenhouse
Advisor:   Mary Bruce
We will work in the greenhouse and around the grounds learning about the life cycle of plants.  Students wil plant, dig, and grow.  We will continue to develop a pollinator garden.  Students will help water and car for plants during recess in addition to after school dates.  We will meet rain or shine so dress for the weather.
Meets every Monday with May 22, 2023 being the last day.
Grades: 3, 4, 5
 
Intramurals
Advisor: Mary Deitrick
Description: After school sports.  Students have the opportunity to play together in many different sports offered after school. It is a great opportunity to socialize and play with classmates in their grade.
Meets: 1 day a week ( Wednesdays ) 
Grades: 3-4-5
 
MAC Scholars
Description: The Hilltop Scholars Program will provide after-school tutoring, enrichment and homework assistance for students during the school year. We will have guest speakers throughout the school year.

Nov.15th, Dec.13th, Jan.17th, Feb.7th, 14th, 21st, 28th, Mar.15th, Apr.11th, May17th
Grades: 4 and 5          
 
Math Lab
Advisor:  Diana Romanoff
Description:   Assistance with homework and reinforcement/reteaching of the grade level standards
Meets: Monday-Thursday
Grades: Grades 3-5
 
 
Outward Boundless
Description: In all types of weather, students will explore the Hilltop grounds and dive deep into nature and explore outdoor education.  The kids will learn about, explore and play in the natural world with guided activities.  (Would like to return to Squire Valleevue Farms)
Meets: Wednesdays all year- future dates 3/1, 3/8, 3/15, 2/22, 4/5 , 4/12, 4/19, 4/26, 5/3, 5/10 and 5/17
Grades: 3rd
 
Science Club- AKA Tutoring
Advisor: Jason Hill
Description: Invite only for fifth grade students in need of additional support in Science. Students review content standards and are provided curricular reinforcement.
Meets: Every Tuesday and Weds.  2:45-3:45.
 
Student Council
Advisor:  Laura Rice (Gibson)
Participants of student council work on building leadership skills, school spirit and philanthropy projects.
Meets:  Every other Monday beginning in October
Grades:  3, 4, 5           
 
Yearbook
Description: The Yearbook Club is a great opportunity to practice your photography and computer skills in order to create a lasting memory book for the whole school.            
Meets: Tuesdays
