BOARD OF EDUCATION VACANCY
Dear Beachwood Community Members,
The Beachwood Board of Education is seeking to fill a vacancy on its board due to the resignation of Steve Rosen. Mr. Rosen’s resignation, offered because he has been hired into a new position with Key Corporation that prohibits him from holding elected public office, is effective January 6th, 2018.
The process to fill this vacancy is detailed in Board of Education Bylaw 145 as follows:
A. The Beachwood City School District Board of Education shall seek qualified and interested candidates from the community through the news media, word of mouth, and contacts with appropriate organizations.
B. All applicants are to submit a notice of their interest, in writing, to the Beachwood City School District Board of Education President. The Beachwood City School District Board of Education shall interview all interested candidates to ascertain their qualifications.
C. Appointment by the Beachwood City School District Board of Education to fill a vacancy shall be by majority vote of the remaining members of the Beachwood City School District Board of Education.
Given the timing of this vacancy, the appointed school board member will serve through December 31, 2019. In November of 2019, three board seats, one 2-year term and two 4-year terms, will be up for election. The Board of Education is seeking a candidate that is interested in filling the current vacancy and in running in the November election for either the two-year or four-year term.
A board member must be: a U.S. citizen; at least 18 years old; a resident of Ohio for at least 30 days preceding the appointment; a resident of Beachwood for at least 30 days preceding appointment; and registered to vote in Beachwood for at least 30 days preceding appointment.
Interested individuals must submit a notice of interest to: BeachwoodBOEVacancy@beachwoodschools.org. Each individual who submits this notice will receive an application to complete and submit. The deadline to submit a completed application is January 14, 2019.
All candidates who submit a completed application by January 14, 2019 will be interviewed by remaining board members who will vote to select the new board member. The new board member will be announced at the regular meeting of the Board of Education scheduled for January 28, 2019.
On behalf of the Beachwood City Schools community, I thank Steve Rosen for his dedicated service to our students and school system as a board member since 2012. We all wish Steve well in this next chapter of his career.
Dr. Brian Weiss
