Over Memorial Day weekend, a team of Beachwood Middle School 8th graders won 2nd place in the Global Finals of Destination Imagination, competing at the University of Tennessee against 72 teams. They finished first place in their central challenge and won 2nd place overall. Competing in a challenge called “The Meme Event” in which teams were required to address a community need, the 8th graders organized a book drive to encourage single and teen mothers to read to their babies and toddlers, and then held a storytime at JDN to read to toddlers. The winning team included Adam Charnas, Max Steiger, and Jordyn Zawatsky, and were supported by two teammates who could not attend Globals, Gabe Colmenares and Jack Brewer.
Beachwood had 16 Destination Imagination teams this year, with 5 teams advancing to states, and one team advancing to Globals. This is the first time Beachwood team has ever won a medal at Global Finals. Over 17,000 students competed in the tournament, representing 21 different countries.
