Elementary teacher Grace Wilson and supervisor
of buildings and grounds Jeffery Smith were honored as the 2012 recipients of
Beachwood Schools' Crystal Apple Award.
The school district administration presents the awards annually to one teaching
staff member and one non-teaching staff for exemplary service.
“Grace truly enjoys children, and understands
and practices the true art of teaching,” said Bryden Elementary School
Principal Christi Bernetich. “She goes above and beyond to make sure her
students succeed both in the classroom and in their intellectual and social
growth.”
Wilson has been with
Beachwood Schools since 1998 and most recently served as gifted/enrichment
teacher for Bryden’s Kindergarten through second grade students. She is currently
a fourth grade teacher at Hilltop Elementary School.
Smith joined the district
in 2005 and oversees Beachwood Schools’ maintenance, grounds and safety
operations. In presenting Smith’s award, Beachwood Schools Superintendent Dr.
Richard A. Markwardt noted that his work ethic is exemplary and that he always
gives more than 100 percent.
“Jeff's already countless hours and tireless
efforts have been even greater during the high school renovation project,
particularly during these summers months to have the high school building open in time for
school,” Markwardt said.
